Job Opp: High Availability Technical Specialist

Mid-Range is a privately owned, Canadian company headquartered in Markham, Ontario. Established in 1988, Mid-Range has grown from three founders to a full-time staff of over 70+. The company provides 24/7/365 multi-platform I.T. private cloud and hybrid environments as well as professional services, colocation, hosting, and managed services. Mid-Range is an IBM Platinum Partner for hardware, software, and services and partners with Lenovo, Microsoft, VMWare, and Veeam, Precisely, Rocket and others. We also provide field services for these vendors’ products and services. In addition to the above Mid-Range owns and operates 2 raised floor data centers in the GTA. We have an end-to-end Oracle JD Edwards practice that is second to none.

We are looking for an individual with a passion for technology and a desire to solve real-world problems – like helping Clients protect their data and ensure business continuance.  Put your passion for high and higher availability for IT systems to work as a Mid-Range High Availability Technical Specialist.

Responsibilities will include: 

• Responsible for implementation, customization and support of Clients using Vision Solution’s Mimix product. Experience with other Vision replication products (Double-Take, etc.) a definite asset
• IBM iCluster implementation, customization and support a definite asset
• IBM Maxava implementation, customization and support are a definite asset
• Performing switch tests/role swaps for the same
• Resolution of H/A replication issues
• Related System i Operating System and Hardware support
• Knowledge transfer and training clients on the use of technology
• Maintaining required technology certifications as related to function.
• Weekend or off-hours support or project work as required.

 Qualifications (knowledge and skills): 

• Minimum of 5 years core IBM Power Systems, System  i, and High Availability functional product experience
• Familiarity with a variety of field concepts, practices, and procedures related to IT operations.
• High level of general operating system and applications knowledge – IBM Power platform (and others).
• Ability to understand a Client’s needs and translate those needs into actionable implementation plans and Scopes of Work (SOW).
• Disaster Recovery Planning
• Full System Recovery to both same and different Hardware
• Experience Performing RISC-to-RISC Migrations
• System Upgrades and Operating System Upgrades
• Familiarity with the IBM System Planning Tool

In addition, the candidate should have experience in most of the following areas:  

• Networking (TCP/IP)
• SAN Installation and Configuration
• IBM PowerHA knowledge and hands-on experience a definite asset
• How-to, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of IBM Power Systems (IBM i)

Other mandatory skills needed: 

• Completion of quality work within deadlines — demonstrated organizational and time management skills 
• Strong client-centric professional skills — verbal and written communication skills (client communication and documentation) 
• Interact professionally with other employees and suppliers.  Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments 
• Computer skills with knowledge of applications including Microsoft Office Suite. 
• Ability to contribute positively to overall process and solution improvements 
• Excellent knowledge of Information Systems and general business operations
