IBM recently announced that IBM i 7.2 will reach the end of program support effective April 30, 2021.

IBM i 7.2, was released in May 2014 and by 2021, it will have had a life span of 7 years which is admirable in today’s marketplace.

Customers need to plan on what are their next steps, and Mid-Range is here to support users to stay informed and make the best decisions for their organization.

If you are a current IBM I 7.2 user, here are some options for you to consider:

If you are on old hardware that does not support an OS beyond 7.2, you can buy extended support at an additional cost although that is a short-term solution.
You can move your workload from your old hardware to a Mid-Range Cloud resource, and work with our services team to update the OS so you are supported.
You need to confirm with your ISVs what versions they support, and then start to budget for an update to a more updated OS on your power system - sooner rather than later.

Remember, when you run the most current version IBM i V7R4, you will able to take advantage of some of the newest features as well as enjoy the longest life span.
