IBM V7R2 end of support is coming. Plan your upgrade now.
IBM recently announced that IBM i 7.2 will reach the end of program support effective April 30, 2021.
IBM i 7.2, was released in May 2014 and by 2021, it will have had a life span of 7 years which is admirable in today’s marketplace.
Customers need to plan on what are their next steps, and Mid-Range is here to support users to stay informed and make the best decisions for their organization.
If you are a current IBM I 7.2 user, here are some options for you to consider:
- If you are on old hardware that does not support an OS beyond 7.2, you can buy extended support at an additional cost although that is a short-term solution.
- You can move your workload from your old hardware to a Mid-Range Cloud resource, and work with our services team to update the OS so you are supported.
- You need to confirm with your ISVs what versions they support, and then start to budget for an update to a more updated OS on your power system - sooner rather than later.
Remember, when you run the most current version IBM i V7R4, you will able to take advantage of some of the newest features as well as enjoy the longest life span.
